David W. Marold

David Marold’s career included managerial and executive positions in marketing and sales. His passion turned to teaching in 2008 becoming an instructor in marketing and IMC at Eastern Michigan University and in IMC at WVU as an instructor in 2010.

Before joining academia, David Marold’s career included managerial and executive positions in marketing and sales at Ford Credit, IHS Markit (R. L. Polk), Acxiom, Dialogue Marketing, Aimia (Carlson Marketing) and AAA Life Insurance Company.

His account assignments included work with Chrysler, General Motors, Hyundai, Mazda, Mercedes Benz, Nestle and Northwest Airlines.

Marold is a lecturer teaching Digital Marketing, CRM, Direct Marketing, Campaigns and E-commerce at Eastern Michigan University. In seven out of eight years, his student teams won the prestigious Gold, Silver or Bronze ECHO Awards (as recently as 2017, before the award was discontinued in 2018). The awards were given in Marketing Edge’s Collegiate ECHO Challenge with as many as 200 teams participating. David has lectured at: Wayne State, Madonna, Northern Illinois, Ferris State and Grand Valley State universities, and has spoken at the Data & Marketing Association (DMA) Annual Conferences and the Marketing Edge Research Summit.

Marold is past president of the Direct Marketing Association of Detroit and received their “Lifetime Achievement” award in 2012. He holds a Bachelor of Science in Psychology from the University of Iowa and a Master of Business Administration from Northern Illinois University. He has authored/co-authored three articles published in the Journal of Advertising Education, one published in The International Journal of Integrated Marketing and one in LIMRA “Market Facts.” Three cases he co-authored received 3rd place recognition at Marketing Edge Research Summits and have appeared in 6 editions of 2 textbooks.

In this class, reading is fundamental! It was also helpful to have parts of the final divided up into assignments for the Professor's feedback to take out the guesswork of having to do the final paper without knowing if large sections were good or bad. I would say that David Marold is an amazing professor, but one who will test how well you are paying attention.
