Matthew has over 16 years of senior-level marketing experience, with professional roles as a development director, marketing director, and special events manager for nonprofits. She was also a senior market research analyst for Ketchum Public Relations. At this company she conducted market research for 70 client accounts, including: Fortune 500 companies such as PepsiCo NA, Keurig Dr Pepper, JP Morgan Chase, P&G, FedEx, and HPE, to name a few.

In addition to her work at WVU, Matthew owns the NYC MWBE-certified brand strategy and marketing consultancy, VCM Strategies, formerly Brazen Marketer, based in Brooklyn, New York, where she currently resides. As a consultant, she helps people-based service businesses and nonprofits build their brands from the ground up. Rebranding businesses for more impact in their market is another of her skills. To do this she uses her knowledge of brand strategy, messaging strategy, graphic and website design, social media marketing, search engine optimization, email marketing, and content marketing. She is quite the unicorn marketer.

Matthew holds an M.S. in Integrated Marketing Communications from West Virginia University, where she graduated top of her class. She also has her B.S. in Political Science from Tufts University and is certified in Media Management through New York University.

In her spare time, she writes and presents on various marketing topics, having been a featured speaker for Southern Illinois University, Harlem Community Development Corporation, Start Small Think Big, NYC Business Solutions FastTrac NewVenture for the Female Entrepreneur, The Freelancers Conference, and the Small Biz Creative Conference.
