Melissa Boatwright is the Director of Sales Insights for Europe and Latin American at LinkedIn. She leads a team of data storytellers who use data aggregated from the 700+ million LinkedIn members to help companies improve their talent, sales, learning or marketing strategies.
Prior to her role in Dublin, Boatwright led the LinkedIn Sales Insights team that supported LinkedIn’s largest and most complex global clients.
She is also the co-lead for the LinkedIn Global Veteran Employee Resource Group. A fierce advocate for the military community, Boatwright’s leadership led to her co-authoring the LinkedIn Veteran Opportunity Report and enabling LinkedIn to improve its military and military spouse policies. A currently servicing U.S. Air Force Reservist, Boatwright is also the Chief of Public Affairs at the 349th Air Mobility Wing at Travis Air Force Base, California.
Boatwright and her partner Cory are also business owners. They recently purchased Ace Handyman Services Portland, a franchise of Ace Hardware. The business to consumer franchise offers home improvement, repair, and upgrading services and guarantees the work for nearly a year after completion. She manages their lead generation and marketing activities.
Prior to her current roles, Boatwright was the Vice President of Global Technology programs at Clarivate Analytics, previously a division of Thomson Reuters. During her time there, she led nearly 80 divestiture workstreams related to the disentanglement of Thomson Reuters and Clarivate technologies. She came to that role after serving nearly two years as the Chief of Staff for the company’s Chief Technology Officer.
Before Boatwright shifted her corporate career to focus on business, engineering, and operational roles, she was a communications professional. Upon graduating from the Integrated Marketing Communications Program at WVU in 2008, she led Public Relations for Motley Rice, a plaintiffs litigation firm in Charleston, S.C. During her time there, the team earned several marketing and communications awards from the Legal Marketing Association. She then joined Thomson Reuters as an executive communications specialist, partnering with all U.S. based executives of the Intellectual Property and Science business (now Clarivate Analytics). Within two years, she was the Global Director of their internal communications team.
Boatwright served nearly 10 years on active duty in the Air Force as a broadcast journalist prior to her civilian career. She was stationed in Spangdahlem Air Base, Germany, at Osan and Kunsan Air Bases in South Korea, Nellis Air Force Base, Nevada, and at the Pentagon where she helped to stand up The Pentagon Channel, the Department of Defense global television news channel. She also deployed in 2005 during Iraq’s first free election. When Boatwright left active duty, she had just finished her B.A. and immediately began the IMC program at WVU. She also transitioned to the Reserves in 2007 where she went on to work at the Air Force News Agency in San Antonio Texas as a reporter, the 1st Combat Camera Squadron in Charleston, South Carolina as a flight commander, Beale Air Force Base in California as the 9th Reconnaissance Wing Public Affairs Officer, and now at Travis.
Boatwright has a B.A. in Communications from University of Maryland University College (now called University of Maryland Global Campus), an M.S. in Integrated Marketing Communications from West Virginia University, and an M.B.A. from Sonoma State University. She is also a graduate of the Defense Information School’s Basic Broadcasting Course (Top graduate), Advanced Electronic Journalism Course, Broadcast Managers Course, and the Public Affairs Qualifying Course (Distinguished Graduate), She also attended the Department of Defense Joint Course at Oklahoma University.
She also graduated from Basic Military Training in 1998, Airmen Leadership School in 2001 (Honor Graduate), Noncommissioned Officer Academy (via correspondence) in 2009, Officer Training School (Distinguished Graduate) 2010, and Squadron Officer School (via correspondence) in 2015.
She is a member of the Project Management Institute and received her Project Management Professional certificate in 2018. In 2019, she became a Dare to Lead certified trainer based on Dr. Brené Brown book/research of the same name.
Melissa Boatwright usually resides in Portland, Oregon but is on an international assignment with LinkedIn in Dublin, Ireland for most of 2021.
