A critical part of your application is the personal statement.
This allows the admissions committee to gain insight into your
academic and professional goals, personal, professional, and
academic experiences, and allows the committee to see if you
are a strong candidate for the program. Below are some key elements
you should include in your personal statement:
· Briefly introduce yourself and your academic or professional background.
· Describe your academic journey and how it has prepared you to pursue a graduate program.
· Explain why you’re applying to this program and institution.
· Clearly outline your short- and long-term career objectives.
· Describe how
the program will help you achieve your personal, professional,
and academic goals.
Length: Your statement should be between 500 and 800 words in length.
Structure: Be sure your content is well-organized, with a logical progression of ideas between paragraphs.
Proofread: Check for grammar, punctuation, and clarity. Ask someone else to review it, but don’t let them rewrite it. Your personal statement should be your voice and point of view
**The use of AI tools for writing assistance is prohibited. Applicants
are expected to write their personal statement independently.
Your admissions consultant is not permitted to review drafts
of personal statements.
Submitting your professional resume allows the admissions committee to gain insight
into your work experience and professional background. The program
does not require that applicants have experience in a specific
career field or have a certain number of years of experience
to be admitted.
To apply for one of WVU's fully online master's degrees in Data, Digital or Integrated Marketing Communications, a graduate certificate program or as an Alumni Lifelong Learning Program (ALLP) Applicant, use the WVU Graduate Admissions portal. You don't have to complete your application all at once - use this login anytime to continue the app or submit additional materials.

Applying before the PRIORITY deadline opens opportunities for accelerated tracks and puts you first in line for choosing courses, electives and instructors. It also ensures you meet financial aid deadlines, and that you get into cohorts with limited spots (Data and DINFOS). Applications for the upcoming term will only be accepted after the deadline on a case-by-case basis. If you are applying to financial aid, submit the FAFSA at least 4 weeks prior to the term in which you want financial aid.
The Alumni Lifelong Learning Program offers a more affordable way for you, our alumni, to sharpen your skills in emerging topic areas, technologies and practices used by today's marketing communications practitioner. Available exclusively for graduates of the Integrated, Data and Digital Marketing Communications master's degree programs at WVU, ALLP allows you to return to the take a course to keep your skills current with the industry, earn a specialized credential by completing a graduate certificate at a reduced rate! Each course is completed for a grade, is transferrable and can be applied to an additional credential.

Official Academic Transcripts
We highly recommend using an outside evaluation service to provide WVU
with an evaluation of your transcripts. Our service of choice is the
World Education Services (WES). The best evaluation to request is the
"WES ICAP," which costs $225 USD. This report will be emailed to
WVU with an equivalency report for determination of your grades from
your institution as compared to the USA grade point average system. See

send the transcripts directly to WVU, via post mail or electronic delivery.
This process may take a much longer amount of time. Your Official academic

TOEFL or IELTS Scores
West Virginia University requires international students to submit their
TOEFL or IELTS scores directly to the central WVU Office of Admissions.
Use destination code 5904 to have TOEFL scores sent. You may also use
Pearson Test of English (PTE) Academy or Duolingo English Test scores.
International students are required to submit English language proficiency
scores from one of the following:
