What are your interests outside of Marketing Communications?

Being on or near the water with my family wherever possible — most often this means pontooning on Minnesota and Wisconsin lakes and rivers, enjoying Floridian or Hawaiian beaches, and hiking to find the next breathtaking waterfall in whatever city we're visiting.

Why did you choose to pursue a WVU Marketing Communications graduate degree?

I look back and realize I had a pretty trial-by-fire entry to my career. It was a career beginning that was more about doing and less about understanding—more about getting things done and less about being methodical. The IMC Master's program will be a catalyst for sharpening my skills in campaign management, media and PR, events, crisis communication and content generation, while helping lay a firmer foundation in critical concepts like research and analysis, brand management and audience insight—those key elements I blazed over when I jumped right into a very hands-on career. Additionally, I want to keep my skills as current as possible. With the world of mar-comm changing so rapidly, I know the IMC will help keep me up to speed.

What are you most looking forward to throughout your studies?

Meeting and connecting with other professionals throughout the country and the world. We have such diverse perspectives and experience and have so much to learn from one another!

How do you hope your degree will advance your career after graduation?

After completion of the M.S. in Integrated Marketing Communications at WVU, I aspire to continue teaching and supporting community organizations and events. The deeper insight and richer understanding of critical marketing-communications pillars will open many new doors to reaching the right audiences and driving revenue for businesses I support. With new knowledge and skills, I’ll provide enriched learning opportunities for my students too. Ultimately, the WVU experience will not only propel my career, but enhance what I’m able to give back to clients, students and community organizations.
