Early in his career, Isaac Mei knew he wanted to stay up-to-date with emerging media and trends so that he could be on the cutting edge in his career. Graduating from the M.S. IMC program in 2017 set him up for success.
“For me in my career, I've been able to really build my name on that and stake a claim with being the guy in whatever workplace I've been in who's always prepared for the next thing,” Mei said. “IMC really taught me how do we translate our message to our audience using the next platform, the next thing, and does that make sense for us and our brand.”
He credits his professional growth in the program to the faculty who are currently working in the industry and classmates always willing to share their experiences in the workforce. These different viewpoints on industry topics gave Mei an entirely new perspective on his own career and where it could go.
Mei’s favorite class, entrepreneurship in IMC, allowed him to flex some creative muscles and practice free expression in the marketing space. It opened him up to solutions and ways of thinking beyond the typical things he had learned throughout his professional journey.
Mei has been an active alum of the IMC program, participating in online discussions, podcast appearances and visits to West Virginia University for in-person events. He credits his engagement to the time he spent in the IMC program, the mentorship he received along the way and the people he’s met from the programs.

Since this interview, Isaac has accepted a new position as a communications strategist in the United States Marine Band.
