Spooky Season: Brands Use Friday the 13th as a Halloween Kickoff

It’s spooky season! And, to make the spooky season even better, we have Friday the 13th this month. The last Friday the 13th of October was 2017 and won’t happen again until 2028. Whether you follow the superstitions that go with Friday the 13th or your mind goes straight to Jason Voorhees, brands are taking a fun spin on the day.

Goosebumps on Disney+Goosebumps

R.L. Stine’s Goosebumps tales are back, hitting Disney+ on Friday the 13th. The first five episodes will be part of Disney+’s “Hallowstream” and Hulu’s “Huluween” celebrations.

“R.L. Stine’s ‘Goosebumps’ franchise is a pop culture phenomenon that holds a special place in the hearts of people of all ages,” said Ayo Davis, president, Disney Branded Television. “We are delighted to bring this spooky new series to audiences everywhere in a big way on Disney+ and Hulu, which we hope will not only captivate new audiences with its elevated thrills and chills, but also lifelong fans nostalgic for the stories that are a staple of their generation.”

This bestselling book series has more than 400 million books in print in 32 languages.

And finally, make sure you check your local theater. Many theatres are playing Friday the 13th for this spooky day. It’s a great time to kick off your own spooky movie series today.

About Friday the 13th

Other than the movie, Friday the 13th is full of superstitions. The superstition that the date is unlucky has been spread across Western culture. It has inspired many horror movies and novels. Most of the superstitions are likely from a greater awareness of bad things happening that particular day.

While there is a fear of the number 13, triskaidekaphobia or of Friday the 13th, paraskevidekatriaphobia, it is just a day.
