It’s spooky season! And, to make the spooky season even better, we have Friday the 13th this month. The last Friday the 13th of October was 2017 and won’t happen again until 2028. Whether you follow the superstitions that go with Friday the 13th or your mind goes straight to Jason Voorhees, brands are taking a fun spin on the day.
Goosebumps
R.L. Stine’s Goosebumps tales are back, hitting Disney+ on Friday the 13th. The first five episodes will be part of Disney+’s “Hallowstream” and Hulu’s “Huluween” celebrations.
“R.L. Stine’s ‘Goosebumps’ franchise is a pop culture phenomenon that holds a special place in the hearts of people of all ages,” said Ayo Davis, president, Disney Branded Television. “We are delighted to bring this spooky new series to audiences everywhere in a big way on Disney+ and Hulu, which we hope will not only captivate new audiences with its elevated thrills and chills, but also lifelong fans nostalgic for the stories that are a staple of their generation.”
This bestselling book series has more than 400 million books in print in 32 languages.
Hurts Donuts
Hurts Donuts is offering a special delivery to get everyone in the spooky spirit. You can get someone dressed up as Jason Voorhees to deliver donuts to you or someone you know. This is a Friday the 13th promotion only (with some special donut options as well!).
White Castle
White Castle is taking advantage of Friday the 13th by launching its 13 spooktacular deals on Friday the 13th. The first deal: 13 sliders for the price of 10, an extra-spooky baker’s dozen. The deal will change daily, and only the 13th slider deal has been announced.
The #13CreepyCraves promotions have kicked off with an animated Instagram Reel.
Krispy Kreme
Krispy Kreme has a spooky deal featuring 13¢ original glazed dozen when you buy any regular-priced dozen. Plus, for the month of October, Krispy Kreme launched their Scooby-Doo! Halloween Doughnuts featuring the Scooby-Dooby Doo Doughnut, Mystery Machine Doughnut, Spooky Monster Cookies N’ Kreme Doughnut and Junkies! Halloween Orange Sprinkle Doughnut. It’s the Case of the Disappearing Doughnuts.
Friday the 13th
And finally, make sure you check your local theater. Many theatres are playing Friday the 13th for this spooky day. It’s a great time to kick off your own spooky movie series today.
About Friday the 13th
Other than the movie, Friday the 13th is full of superstitions. The superstition that the date is unlucky has been spread across Western culture. It has inspired many horror movies and novels. Most of the superstitions are likely from a greater awareness of bad things happening that particular day.
While there is a fear of the number 13, triskaidekaphobia or of Friday the 13th, paraskevidekatriaphobia, it is just a day.
