My Marcom Story: Alexis Schnell

|

Always passionate about learning and higher education, Lexi Schnell came to the IMC program after taking a year off following the completion of her bachelor’s degree. Lexi found the IMC program through her personal network — a former employer encouraged her to get in touch with a friend who was an instructor in the program.

“I reached out to that faculty member and she encouraged me to learn more,” she said. “Full force with the support of my director, I was able to finally take that professor's course at the time which was really exciting.”

Based out of Louisville, Kentucky, Lexi had never stepped foot on WVU’s campus. With working full-time, she dove into the online program so she could advance her career both on the job and in the classroom. When she graduated in 2019, Lexi made the trip to celebrate with her classmates and visited WVU for the first time.

Lexi already had a background in social media from her time in undergrad and her position before she started the IMC program, but there was more she still wanted to learn. Her favorite course with the IMC program is a toss up between creative strategy and social media marketing because these two courses combined her two passions and showed her where she could take her career.

When Lexi took on a new role near the halfway point of her master’s degree, and her experience in the IMC program gave her the confidence to make that leap. Her time learning about social and digital media allowed her to bring a new perspective to her role and the team she was collaborating with.

“I knew I needed something more, and the IMC program allowed that for me. It's made me more competent in my job. It's made me more competent in my career journey,” Lexi said. “I just feel more confident in myself as a professional as well as kind of where I'm headed.”

Since her graduation, Lexi has since taken a new role as a digital marketing specialist at Schneider Electric Sustainability Business.

I knew I needed something more, and the IMC program allowed that for me. It's made me more competent in my job. It's made me more competent in my career journey. I just feel more confident in myself as a professional as well as kind of where I'm headed. Lexi Schnell
