Making Your Mark on the Marketing Communications Industry with Sarah Perlman

Sarah Perlman, who has always strived to stay relevant in the marcom industry, is now pursuing her master's degree in Integrated Marketing Communications because it is the right time, the right price and the right amount of flexibility for her.

In undergrad, she studied Graphic Communications at Clemson University. In this program, she learned the ins and outs of the printing industry. After starting her career in printing, she found her true passion in being creative. As she has grown in her career, she has enjoyed strategic thinking and applying innovative solutions to marketing problems. She is excited for her educational journey to enhance her strategic thinking.

I've already had a great experience in my first class! I enjoy meeting new people and have found that the discussion boards are one of my favorite parts of the class structure. I enjoy learning things about my classmates and hearing about everyone else's experiences, as well as sharing tips and tricks with each other. It's such a supportive environment! Sarah Perlman

With an established business and career, she was afraid that she would be the oldest person in her classes — and she acknowledges that she might be. But she has found she is far from being the only one pursuing a graduate degree later in life. “I would encourage anyone considering it to go for it. Our additional experiences bring new perspectives to add to those fresh out of undergrad,” Perlman adds.

As a business owner, she works “a LOT!” She loves what she does, but when she does have free time, she spends it with her family. With a 9-year-old and 12-year-old, she and her husband make sure to schedule around their important events to be present in their lives as much as possible. She also enjoys reading and traveling.

Silverbrook Marketing

Perlman is the owner of Silverbrook Marketing in Virginia. One day, she’d love to be an adjunct professor. “My father was a college professor for nearly 50 years so I grew up around academia. I also have always enjoyed the mentorship aspect of managing team members, so I think I'd enjoy teaching,” Perlman noted. She is ready for this next step in her career as she continues making her mark on the marketing communications industry.

Stefanie is a marketing manager in the Marketing Communications Online Programs through the College of Creative Arts and Media at West Virginia University. She is an alumna of WVU's M.S. in Integrated Marketing Communications (IMC) and has been working in marketing for over 6 years after beginning her career in the newspaper business. She's a marathon runner and she recently ran a qualifying time for the Boston Marathon.
