Finding A Tapestry of Knowledge at WVU

|

Damilola Fasinu, M.S. IMC Class of Spring 2024

WVU has been instrumental in Damilola Fasinu’s growth. She not only studied in the M.S. Integrated Marketing Communications with an area of emphasis in Data Marketing Communications, but she is also graduating with her Ph.D. in Human and Community Development. She’s also completed two graduate certificates in Community Development Policy and Practice and Project Evaluation. “This marks more than the culmination of advanced studies; it represents the weaving of a vast and intricate tapestry of knowledge,” Fasinu noted.

While in the IMC master’s program, Fasinu was able to attend the Integrate 2023 conference, noting it as one of her favorite memories from her time at WVU. To her, Integrate was a platform for refreshing skills, sparking inspiration and connecting with creatives, marketers and communicators nationwide. “Meeting and interacting with industry experts was incredibly enriching, offering direct access to seasoned professionals and leading thinkers in the field. This experience deepened my understanding and expanded my professional network, adding a profound layer of value to my educational journey at WVU.”

Fasinu has enjoyed her time at WVU and will miss the sense of community and shared spirit of exploration and discovery. “My interactions with the faculty and students, the camaraderie we shared, and the collaborative atmosphere have greatly enriched my experience. The vibrant discussions that sparked innovation, the collective celebrations of our breakthroughs, and the unwavering mutual support have been cornerstones of my time here.” The support she found through WVU has been instrumental in her growth.

“Reflecting on my time at WVU, I see a rich tapestry composed of varied academic threads—Information Technology, Computer Science, Design & Merchandising, and Integrated Marketing Communications with an emphasis on Data Marketing. Each discipline has contributed a unique strand of knowledge and skill, creating a narrative that is as complex as it is complete. The roles I've embraced—mother, wife, student, and leader—have been performed with a mixture of grace and resilience, all anchored by a steadfast faith in God.”

Fasinu loved her time at WVU and is thankful to Prof. Colleen Moretz, who encouraged her to go beyond her comfort zone and participate in competitions and exhibitions. “Her unwavering support was instrumental in sharpening my academic and professional skills, setting a foundation for success in my subsequent endeavors.”

To incoming students, she notes to embrace every opportunity with zest and an open heart. Engage with peers, participate in activities and trust in your journey.

Fasinu, originally from Lagos, Nigeria, looks forward to a career using her multifaceted expertise. “By combining the power of technology with the finesse of creativity, I am prepared to devise solutions that are both innovative and impactful,” Fasinu says as she reflects on the education she received. “I am ready to champion progress and drive transformation, I am committed to making a meaningful impact on the world, one that resonates with the spirit of community and development fostered during my transformative years at WVU. I leave you with this... God loves you.”
