Finding Mentorship and Connection in WVU's IMC Program

|

Jill Gibboney, M.S. IMC Class of Spring 2024

Jill Gibboney is grateful for the support she has and found through her time in the IMC program and doesn’t ever want to stop learning. The support from fellow classmates and the learning environment are two things she is going to miss most from WVU.

 Jill Gibboney

Gibboney’s favorite memory from WVU was attending the Integrate 2023 conference. “Getting to meet fellow students and faculty, plus attending informative sessions gave me some insight and made me feel connected to the program and the school at large,” she shared from her experience. “I ended up getting somewhat of a mentor and I also developed some solid, amazing friendships just by attending a conference. I was also able to bring back the learnings from the sessions for my team at work.”

With a focus on creative strategy, Gibboney gained some valuable feedback during her time at WVU. Most notably, she remembers one piece of feedback that changed her life and how she saw herself as a marketer. That advice came from Advanced Creative Concepts instructor, Nathan Pieratt. “Not only is he such a supportive educator who cares deeply about the creative process and his students, but he encouraged me to see myself for who I was, not who I thought I was. Learning is part of the process of any educational system, but learning about myself made the biggest impact, and I am grateful for Professor Pieratt's contribution to that lesson.”

For those considering the Marketing Communications Online Programs, Gibboney shares “It can be daunting to go back to school! Things WILL come up once you enroll, no question, and if you're anything like me, they will come up again and again and again during your time here. It will feel like you can't go on. But you will, and you can, and you will be so glad you did. Just keep going.”

Gibboney is a 2024 graduate of the Integrated Marketing Communications master’s degree with an emphasis in Creative Strategy. She currently resides in Cincinnati and is from Punxsutawney, PA. She is grateful to her husband, son, parents, siblings and friends for their endless support and patience. “I truly couldn't have done it without them!”
